Gotta Say Chris,
It's a bit too pretty for me. I've never been a fan of eye candy, I find it distracting. First thing I did when I got my new Windows XP box (besides patch the ever loving crap out of it and install all the necessary security, just like I have with the Debian portion of the partition) was turn off all the pretty stuff and made it look like Windows 95 again.
I am interested to see how they use transparency in the next version of Windows though, as I understand from my Mac using friends that can be a real useful feature. I think there is a rendering engine of some description for X with transparency too (actual transparency, not that crap that KDE has that pretends to be transparency).
What kind of new features does the new version of office have? I doubt I will use it (LaTeX serves all my document preparation needs and for charts and the like I use CERN's C++ ROOT package, and I use PostgreSQL when I need a database).
On the other hand... the icon set looks nicer. Although I have some concerns for distinctiveness of different icons. Still definately an improvement there, much less harsh on the eyes.
