For too long tradition has shielded religion and given it a free pass. It is like a spoilt child that believes the rules do not apply to it. Ask it to prove itself historically and it blatantly exhorts, “I am historical but the normal rules of historical evidence do not apply to me;” beg it to prove itself scientifically and it mutters, “faith is all I offer you,” attempt to hold it accountable for its crimes and it will invoke tradition as a legal defense; and should you commit the crime of asking it to conform to the rules of logic, it will simply smile at you and hand you nothing but illogical arguments wrapped in a thin veneer of misappropriated logic. For too long religion has hidden beneath the emotional bonds of an intellectually dark tradition, but no more. From now on, let’s hold it accountable. Michael Sherlock author.
