Many religions believe in an afterlife in which when a human being dies, their body stays behind and their souls go to a so called "Heaven" where you live for the rest of eternity. Our brain is our conscious being and thought centrum which also happens to be a part of our body. So in theory, if our body stays behind we will never consciously live in the spiritual realm.
