The importance of doubt is crucial because if you’re ‘certain’ that you’re right and other people are wrong, you’re not going to be able to hear and receive evidence that contradicts you – because of the power of “confirmation bias”. This is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms one's pre-existing and established beliefs or hypotheses. We are designed to protect, defend and “justify” those ideas that we have enshrined into our worldview.
