This quote is an adaptation from Kuan-tzu, "[Writings of] Master Guan," an encyclopedic compilation of Chinese philosolphical materials named after the 7th century BCE philosopher Guan Zhong, Prime Minister to Duke Huan of Qi.
I don't know if it's originally Russian but I know it as “Call on God, but row away from the rocks,†a quote from the American journalist and author, Hunter Thompson (1937 – 2005).
