That's a good question. I've always found it amusing that believers automatically seem to think that their god is good. What if their god is a lazy jerk who just watch people suffer as entertainment?

What is the true nature of God? Does he weep when evils are committed in his name? Or does he respond with bemused intellectual detachment -- savouring the irony? (Observation #1710)
Sadly the delusion runs deep where I live. I don't dare admit I'm an atheist here!

Far too much reverence is accorded to religious belief. It is as if all the inmates in the asylum had joined in a conspiracy to respect each others' delusions. (Observation # 1046)
Revelation is hardly speculation! It is imagination, and not so creative either.

Religion is speculation pretending to be revelation. (Observation #520)
by definition the "I am" of human self awareness cannot contemplate the "I am not" of death.

The human mind, too divine for death, flatters itself with expectations of immortality.

If man was made in the image of God, God must have started as a single-celled organism.
I've said similar on here and other places any number of times.
The best weapon in the atheist armoury ISN'T the gun or the bomb, it is ridicule.
Since time immemorial the theists have tried to ridicule the unbeliever. They laughed and jeered as they burnt them at the stake or lopped off their limbs.
It's high time they got a taste of their own medicine.

While it may not be appropriate in every venue, and on every occasion, mockery is the guardian of reason, the enemy of pretension, and the mirror to folly. No belief, no passion, no commitment should be considered immune from the acerbic test of ridicule.
I would be very interested in any psychology papers or books that compare religious beliefs to stockholm syndrome.could you give me any references? Thank you.

Surely religion must be the first and most striking example of what we now call the Stockholm Syndrome. Though held captive in a universe that is best characterized as profoundly indifferent--or easily seen as manifestly unfair, and demonstrably cruel--millions are infused with a spirit of gratitude and adoration; nor yet do they stint in their praise of the creator whom they imagine to be responsible for their unalterable fate.
I touched on this in a piece I wrote on here a few years back.
Theists suffer from a variation of Stockholm syndrome.
Stockholm syndrome is a psychological behavior that is manifest in certain hostage situations. This condition appears when the hostage begins to show undeserving loyalty to or sympathy with the people who are holding him or her captive. The condition can also be used to describe the behavior of certain victims of domestic abuse, bride kidnapping and even those subjected to brainwashing ie: religion.
